Ken Hutchinson Steps Down As Ottumwa Boys Basketball Coach

According to reports by KTVO TV and the Ottumwa Courier newspaper, Ken Hutchinson resigned as the Ottumwa High School boys head basketball coach Friday after an investigation recommended his termination. Rumors had been going on for several week and the school district sent out a statement saying it took “any reports of allegations seriously and investigates each situation thoroughly.” The accusations against Hutchinson came from a student, who accused him of “verbal bullying and/or harassment,” the district said. Friday’s statement was the first comment by the district specifically mentioning him. He denied the allegations.

After investigating, the administration recommended Hutchinson’s termination. He also taught social studies at Evans Middle School. The basketball team finished the recent season with a 6 and 15 record. Hutchinson is a 2003 graduate of Albia High School. He coached the Pekin High School boys basketball team 9 seasons before this one with the Bulldogs, compiling a 133 and 70 overall record.
