The Fairfield varsity girls basketball team took a 74-35 home game against Fort Madison Friday, wrapping up a share of the Southeast Conference titles with Keokuk. They both had 7 and 1 league records. Ashley Bloomquist scored 22. Shay Drish came through with 16 points. Destiny Gridley netted 14 points. Kara Jeffrey provided 8 points. Malory Jones scored 5. Blair Bowman chipped in 4 points and Madison Kraemer hit a 3 pointer. Several thousand dollars was raised for the American cancer Society from the Trojans versus cancer night.
This is the first time since 1987 Fairfield has taken both the both boys and girls basketball conference championships during the same season. The 13 and 6 Trojans have 4 straight wins going into the Class 4A regional tournament semifinal home contest Saturday night with the winner of a Wednesday night contest featuring Mount Pleasant at Clear Creek-Amana.
