Tuesday we reported on 3 graduated seniors from the area that were All-State selections by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association. Cam Baumann of Fairfield made the Class 3A 1st Team as a utility player. He had a 374 batting average this year with 8 doubles, 3 triples, 2 homers, drove in 34 and stole bases in 10 attempts. Baumann was 4 and 2 pitching, totaled 78 strikeouts in just under 42 innings, had a 2.18 earned run average and only 4 errors from 71 chances. He has joined the University of Iowa baseball team.
Sigourney’s Avery Moore is on the Class 1A 2nd Team in the outfield. He hit 477 in 2017 going 31 of 65, ripped 7 doubles, 2 triples, a home run, provided 19 runs batted in, succeeded on all 35 steals and did not commit an error on 24 defensive plays.
Austin Shotts from Ottumwa was the Class 4A 2nd Team 3rd baseman. He racked up a 476 average at the the plate this year, finishing 50 of 105 including 10 doubles, 4 triples a homer and drove in 25 runs. Shotts went 4 and 2 on the mound, fanned 38 batters in 43 innings, compiled a 2.12 ERA and had only 8 errors on 91 chances.
