A pair of area teams finished 2nd in the state softball tournament at Fort Dodge Friday. Number 8 rated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont dropped a 16 inning marathon in Class 2A 5-4 against 9th ranked Iowa City Regina. That was the longest championship game ever and tied the most innings for a single state contest. EBF broke a tie at one during the top of the final frame but the Regals rallied to get the win. The Rockets ended up 32 and 9.
Albia then was blanked by top ranked Davenport Assumption 8-0 in Class 3A. That was the latest starting and ending state tournament game running from 11:30 Friday night until about 1:30 Saturday morning. Southeast Iowa residents Tod Donels and Ed Oliver were 2 of the 3 umpires. The 9th rated Lady Dees finished with a record of 30 and 9.
Oskaloosa ended up 3rd in 4A after taking a 6 inning 14-1 victory over Charles City Friday morning. The Indians ended up 31 and 13.
Sigourney fell to Westwood 6-3 in the Class 1A 3rd place game Friday. The Lady Savages went 23 and 13 this year.
