Republicans, Democrats To Nominate Candidates This Week

Republicans will meet in Keosauqua tonight to nominate their candidate to compete for the Iowa House District 82 seat left vacant by the death of Curt Hanson. The special nominating convention will be held at the Keosauqua Senior Center beginning at 7pm.
Although potential candidates will be nominated from the floor of the convention, Jeff Shipley, who lost to Hanson in the 2014 General Election, Van Buren County Supervisor Ted Nixon and Bloomfield financial advisor Travis Harris have expressed the intention to run.
Democrats will hold their nominating convention Friday at the Fairfield Senior Center at 6:30pm.
Fairfield veterinarian and current President of the Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors, Dr. Phil Miller has announced his intentions to run.
The special election has been scheduled for August 8th.
Iowa House District 82 includes Davis, Van Buren and most of Jefferson County.
