The contract with Midwest Ambulance Service is set to expire in September many have wondered who our next Ambulance provider would be. KMCD/Classic 96 spoke with Jefferson County Supervisor Lee Dimmitt who said they are in the process of developing a contract with Care Ambulance Service out of Iowa City. Dimmitt said that Care has agreed to meet all requirements in the proposal, including having a paramedic on every rig that goes out and local providers on the rigs. Midwest does have an opt out clause in the contract and If they were to invoke that opt out clause Dimmitt said that Care would be ready and willing to step in right away. He said that it’s more palatable for them to come down early and begin service knowing they would be in it for the long haul as opposed to being used as a stopgap measure. He said they hope to have a deal signed in the next 2 weeks.
