Curt Hanson, a 43 year Fairfield High School educator and State Representative has died. A driver education teacher, Hanson was a champion for FHS students and took that experience to Des Moines in his retirement to represent the 90th and 82nd congressional districts since 2009.
As a teacher, Hanson touched so many lives. As an advocate for Fairfield and its people, he was active in the local Kiwanis Club.
He received the Fairfield Jaycee Outstanding Young Education Award, was named the Fairfield Teacher of the Year, and was named runner-up for the National Driver Education Teacher of the Year.
He was a former president of the Fairfield Education Association and he was a life member of the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Curt Hanson was born in Iowa in 1943 and raised on a farm. He has been a resident of Fairfield for 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Diane; a daughter; a son; and four grandchildren. Services are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
