Fairfield On To State In Softball After Beating Des Moines Hoover

The Class 4A 3rd ranked Fairfield varsity softball team won a 4-2 regional final against Des Moines Hoover Tuesday, advancing to state a school record 3rd straight season. Shay Drish went 2 of 2. Freshman Grace Stever came through with the 2 out game winning 2 run pinch hit single when the bases were loaded in the bottom of the 6th. Sara Trent and Kenady Waugh each finished 1 of 3 with an RBI. Brynna Bowman and Kaylee Watson both went 1 of 3 as they totaled 7 hits. Haley Beard pitched the 7 innings, had 3 strikeouts and allowed 6 hits.

The 33 and 9 Trojans are the number 2 seed out of the 8 state qualifiers. Fairfield will have a first round game against 7th seeded 32 and 6 Charles City 5 o’clock Tuesday at Fort Dodge. Mount Pleasant also made it in 4A. as the 5th seed. The 31 and 10 Panthers open with 4th seeded 29-12  defending champion Oskaloosa at 3 Tuesday.
