The Fairfield Art Association announces its’ 2017 Summer Art Installation Theme and invites artists and fine craft persons to participate. “SEE THE MUSIC – Tune into Our Vibe” is the theme selected by FAA board members and it ties into the Fairfield Convention and Visitors Bureau’s new tagline “Fairfield - Tune Into Our Vibe” promoting local tourism.
“The board discussed how we could take the new tagline and make it a visual statement with art. We played with words, considering the ways they could be interpreted and then decided on ‘See the Music’. Seeing, rather than hearing the music should be a fun and creative way to work with materials” says Suzan Kessel, FAA Volunteer Director. We are looking for musical instruments in any condition, parts and in whole, that could be donated for the project. They can be left at the FAA studio.
This is the FAA’s ninth annual outdoor art installation to be placed in the downtown garden nodes, with creations by local and area artists and craftsman. There are 23 spaces available for art, so anyone interested in participating should contact FAA as soon as possible to reserve their spot. This can be done by emailing email@example.com or stopping in the FAA studio Tuesday – Friday from 1-5 and giving your name, contact information and media you work in.
The guidelines for participating include: Open to adult individuals, creative groups, or businesses or company. The theme must be followed and incorporate some part of a musical instrument. Entries can be in sculptural form or combined with painting or collage format. The use of recycled items is encouraged. All materials and finished art work must be weather proof and construction sturdy.
The completed work must be designed to work with FAA’s installation plans and we will provide a 12”x12” square plywood base to permanently build/create on. This base will later be attached to our standardized metal plate on a pole and be four feet above the ground. Size requirements and more details will be giving to participants when they sign up.
Completed artwork is due to the FAA between May 23 -31, and will be installed for the June 2 First Fridays Art Walk. There will be a $25 stipend given to each entry at the conclusion of the project and art entries become the property of the FAA. Art works will be publicly voted on for “Most Totally Tuned In Art”, and a silent auction of the works will take place Aug – September, with proceeds divided between participant and the FAA.
